Situated in the nearby village of Glamis this famous Scottish castle was the childhood home of HRH Queen Elizabeth, the late Queen Mother and birthplace of the late Princess Margaret. It was also the legendary setting for Shakespeare's Macbeth. Within the castle are fine collections of china, paintings, tapestry and furniture. A popular tourist attraction the castle is open to the public and there are gift and garden shops as well as a self-service restaurant.

Glen Isla is the most westerly of the lovely Glens of Angus. The gateway to the Glens is Kirriemuir, a small town best known as the childhood home of J M Barrie, creator of Peter Pan. In the town there is a museum/exhibition in the house he was born in and also a café and small shop.

There is no shortage of Golf courses in this part of the world. As well as local quality courses such as Glenisla (pictured across), there are also world renowned championship courses within easy driving distance such as St Andrews, Carnoustie and Gleneagles.

A few miles drive towards the coast lies the historic town and fishing port of Arbroath. Famous for it's historic Abbey and renowned delicacy "arbroath smokies", the town also has a good selection of shops and spectacular walks along it's coastline. If you ask people what they associate with Scotland's north-east town of Arbroath, the answer will invariably be the Arbroath smokie.
